Mentorships
Professional Mentor
My professional mentor was Mrs. Anna Bergman. I had the special opportunity to also have her as my early childhood preschool practicum teacher. I am so thankful for my experience with Mrs. Bergman and was able to learn what it is really like to be an early childhood special education teacher. I was able to be a part of an IEP meeting, teach multiple lessons, and work one-on-one with students in her classroom. I learned many strategies and tools that I can use in the future as an educator. My biggest take away from this mentorship is that it takes a true leader to working in special education and that I have what it takes to be an early childhood special education teacher!

Faculty Mentor
My faculty Mentor was Mrs. Prussing. I went into this mentor experience with Mrs. Prussing as an opportunity to grow in my knowledge of special education. I was looking to her as someone I could come to for help with school, my special education practicum, and anything else throughout the school year, especially related to the field of special education. Although it did not work out with our schedules to do something outside of classes together, I was still able to gain a lot from her in my classes. For example, I have learned and practiced writing multiple IEPs, lead a mock IEP meeting, and have gotten to lead activities at Adult Life Education for her class. This mentorship with Mrs. Prussing has allowed me to gain the information and skills that it takes to work in special education. I now feel comfortable with my decision to do special education and feel more prepared for what to expect in the future.
